Ten Ingenious Ways You Can Do With My Citi Best Buy | my citi best buy

My Citibank Best Buy Card is the newest identity theft victim. Apparently, someone got hold of one of their internal documents and started sending unauthorized charges through online banking. Citibank's system is so insecure that they are warning college students about scams. It appears that they are trying to protect their most valuable customers from Internet criminals by warning students to beware of “fraudulent” online banks.

This Citibank email warned students to beware of “fraudulent” online banks: “The internet has made it extremely easy for crooks to use banks to defraud you. They may ask you to make deposits that you cannot afford. They may request information from you that you cannot provide. And they may even con you into opening up accounts in your name that you don't know. Stay alert and avoid falling prey to online scams.”

Citibank was not the first or the only bank to post this warning on their website. There have been many others like it is floating around the web. This doesn't mean that Citibank is not legitimate. In fact, they are one of the most respected financial institutions in the country. The problem with their scam alert is that they fall into the fallacious and yet highly popular online-fraud-pile.

Online fraud has reached epidemic proportions. Many parents, fearful for their own children's safety, will give over their money to wealthy parents in exchange for promises of financial abundance. Online-fraudsters target college students. This is a great way to get access to new victims. A college student is easy pickings for unscrupulous online criminals because they are easy to reach. This is just one of the reasons why my Citibank Best Buy Card is “guaranteed” fraud.

The next time you receive an unsolicited email offering you some “Free Coupon,” do not click on the link. Instead, contact your Citibank branch immediately. Citibank customer service can provide you with information about the phishing scam. If the email is from someone you know, then your first impulse should be to call your friends and family members. But, these people have probably forwarded the email to you and your friends could unknowingly be part of the fraud as well.

The common link between college admissions scams and email scams is that the scammers are looking to get you to part with your personal information. Once this is done, they can use that information to obtain a personal credit or use it to apply for a credit card. That's why my Citibank Best Buy Card is “guaranteed” fraud. It offers no protection and the danger it poses is greater than a phishing scam ever could be.

There is another common link between college admissions scams and phishing emails. Phishing scams usually have one goal – to get you to commit credit card information. For example, if you go to the website for Trump University, you will see a lot of ads. Some of these ads encourage you to “qualify” for a free seminar. When you enter your information, the scam artist can use it to apply for credit cards in your name.

This form of college students scam is a sad reminder that not all companies are what they appear to be. If you have received an unsolicited email promising special pricing on Citibank mortgages, you should report it to the Federal Trade Commission. You should also contact the Better Business Bureau because they have information on fraudulent companies and other scams. Your safety and security are not just your own, it's also the responsibility of every single American who goes into business for him or herself. Protect yourself by taking advantage of preventative action like alerting the Federal Trade Commission or the Better Business Bureau about an unsolicited email scam.
